Being interviewed for a job is scary even preparing for it is even scarier. Here is a general scenario you might have done preparing the job interview:
You found out you have been shortlisted to go to the interview, you are nervous yet excited. a few days before the interview excitement turns into anxiousness the day before the interview and the day of the interview is nervousness. You are unsure what to say at the interview, you have not prepared questions to ask, not even have an idea how to get to the interview.
Some of you may have the same or similar scenarios. This article will help you to prepare and be confident to succeed at job interviews for your dream job.
Prepare, Prepare and Prepare
Prepare for the job interview just after you got the date, time, and location of the interview. Give it a week to prepare for the interview:
Day 6: Read the job description and person specification — highlight key points and how it relates to your skills and experiences.
Day 5: Research about the company, job, and even sector. — this is where Google is your helping hand, go through the companies about us, values, objectives, and mission. Research the job and similar job LinkedIn is your friend sometimes some employees put the job role. Use Glassdoor to get ex and current employee views of the role and interview process. By doing this it enables you to get an overview of the company to prepare you for the next day.
Day 4: Now you got all your information — Put all the information together and organise it so it makes sense to you and to look at it whilst doing other things.
Day 3: It is time to think about what the interviewer will ask you. You can use our Interview to Success newsletter to know how to answer interview questions. Read and reread your resume/CV to help you relate experiences to job interview questions.
Day 2: Keep practicing your interview answers and read your research of the company and job — Prepare questions to ask the interview because if you don’t the interviewer may think you are not interested in the job and also the interview is not a one-way street it is both you also want to if the job is right for you check out this post.
Day 1: The day before the interview is the most important day. This is where you plan your journey, what you are going to wear and prepare documents and portfolios you will need at the job interview Make sure you know how to get there and what the traffic conditions will be like. Make sure you have the name/names of the interview panel. This will also be part of your research on what to wear to the interview how do the employees wear to work formal or smart casual.
Day 0: On the day of the interview check the traffic conditions to make final changes but also make sure you leave more time in case you meet with unexpected conditions. Whilst traveling read through your notes and questions this will make you less nervous and anxious.
The interview
Prior to the question ask the receptionist to ask for the interview mention first and last name with a smile. When meeting their interviewers make sure you greet them with a smile and open body language, the handshake needs to be firm with eye contact. Throughout the interview feeling confident and don't be afraid to pause and breathe. Towards the end of the interview ask 2 to 3 questions DO NOT ASK ABOUT PAY AND BENEFITS.
Conclusion
Job interviews can be nervous and anxious but as you prepare and read your research you will feel confident inside. Prepare early you will be okay.
